Here's what you need to do for the excreet credit assignment:

For 8 points, you need to copy (in your own handwriting.  NO TYPE OR

PHOTOCOPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED) three "lettered" objectives under each heading

of the California State Standards for Chemistry (see example below – click on the link to take you there).

They can be any three of your choosing EXCEPT any with an asterisk (*) next to

them.

They CANNOT be the ones with the asterisk  (*) by

them!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY?  Because those are only suggested goals, they are not the ones that we

are going to be tested on (yet, I taught most of them to you in class, how

nice of me!).

There will be 33 lettered objectives that you will turn in.  Why?

Because, as you will see, there are 11 major course objectives in Chemistry

(Atomic and Molecular Structure, Chemical bonds, Conservation of matter and

Stoichiometry, Gases and their properties....etc) and you need to copy 3

from each (let me be perfectly clear on this point:  in your own

handwriting.  NO TYPE OR PHOTOCOPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OR, For 10 points extra credit, you need to copy 4 from each (That will give

you slightly under 44 because there are some Major Goals which have less

than 4 without asterisks.)

This is due on my desk the moment you enter the door Monday for periods

3 and 5.  Tuesday for Period 6

As you are doing this, if there are any that you come across that you

don't know, you might want to spend 5 minutes looking them up in your chem

book.  Remember, if you do well on these exams, it can mean CASH money in

your pocket!!!!!!

Example: From the first major goal:  Atomic and Molecular structure

1a.  how to relate the position of an element in the periodic table to its

atomic number and atomic mass

1b.  how to use the periodic table to identify metals, semimetals,

non-metals and halogens

1c.  how to use the periodic table to identify alkali metals, alkaline earth

metals and transition metals, trends in ionization energy,

electronegativity, and the relative sizes of ions and atoms.

You can skip the Students Know and just write the rest of the line.  But,

you must include the number and the letter.
